John Dyett

Mr. Dyett is a Founder of Salem Partners and Salem Partners Wealth Management. Mr. Dyett heads the firm's efforts in the Life Sciences. He has raised in excess of $200 million of private equity and completed multiple merger and acquisition assignments for Salem Partners' clients. Mr. Dyett raised several rounds of venture capital for Adams Respiratory Therapeutics which was purchased for $2.3 billion cash by Reckitt Benckiser in 2008. Mr. Dyett’s other clients include Neos Therapeutics, Lombardi Software and Quinnova Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Dyett also serves on the investment committees of Salem Partners Wealth Management and SW Contego, a fund of hedge funds established by Salem Partners Wealth Management in 2008. Prior to founding Salem Partners, Mr. Dyett was a banker with Gerard Klauer Mattison & Co., Inc. and Needham and Co., Inc. Mr. Dyett is a graduate of Harvard College.

Stephen Prough

Mr. Prough is a Founder of Salem Partners and Salem Partners Wealth Management.  In addition to his management responsibilities for Salem Partners’ two main businesses, Mr. Prough oversees the firm’s media and entertainment investment banking practice, focusing primarily on mergers and acquisitions advisory services.  Mr. Prough’s clients include Hearst, Sony, Liberty Media, JP Morgan, RHI Entertainment and a number of independent media companies.  Since founding Salem Partners, Mr. Prough has completed more than 25 mergers and acquisitions transactions involving media and entertainment companies.  Mr. Prough also serves on the investment committees of Salem Partners Wealth Management and SW Contego, a fund of hedge funds established by Salem Partners Wealth Management in 2008.  Prior to founding Salem Partners, Mr. Prough was a Vice President in the Media and Communications Investment Banking Group of Furman Selz LLC. At Furman Selz, Mr. Prough advised major media companies such as Time Warner, Sony and New Line Cinema. Mr. Prough is a graduate of Harvard College, where he majored in Government and was a Harvard Scholar.

James Mullany
Managing Director

Mr. M
ullany is responsible for Salem Partners' Filmed Entertainment valuation and advisory business, in addition to his role as a senior media banker. Mr. Mullany's recent valuation and advisory assignments include Village Roadshow Films, Morgan Creek Productions, Alcon Entertainment, Banc of America Leasing, Hannover Leasing GmbH, City National Bank, Bank of America, and Mike Young Productions. He also provided expert witness testimony in the Stephen Bochco vs. 20th Century Fox litigation. Prior to joining Salem Partners, Mr. Mullany was a SVP in the Entertainment and Media Group of Houlihan Lokey, Century City, CA. While there he was a senior member of the team that focused on the major studios and a large number of independent companies in the filmed entertainment business. Prior to working with Houlihan Lokey, Mr. Mullany was a senior executive for Think Entertainment, a television production company partnership between Shelley Duvall and TeleCommunications, Inc., United Artists Communications Inc. and Newhouse Broadcasting. Previous to Think Entertainment, Mr. Mullany was a VP for the Entertainment Industries Group of Wells Fargo Bank, Beverly Hills, CA, where he headed a team of lenders involved in the independent sector of the television and film industry. Prior to Wells Fargo, Mr. Mullany was a VP at Union Bank and Senior Account Officer at Citibank. Mr. Mullany is a graduate of Regis High School (N.Y.), LeMoyne College, Syracuse, NY, where he received a B.A. in Economics, and the School of Business at the University at Albany (S.U.N.Y.), where he received his M.B.A.

Sean Walker
Managing Director


Mr. Walker's eleven years of capital markets experience includes sell-side and buy-side mergers and acquisitions, capital raises, leveraged recapitalizations and work outs. He has executed transactions in a broad range of industries, notably in the healthcare and aerospace and defense sectors. Prior to joining Salem Partners, Mr. Walker headed the Healthcare Industry practice at McGladrey Capital Markets and was also an active contributor to the company's A&D practice.  Mr. Walker previously served as an associate adjunct professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, teaching courses in leadership, management and ethics, and weapon-systems engineering. He was a U.S. Naval Officer for more than eight years, serving as a Naval Flight Officer in the F-14 Tomcat. He currently sits on the West Coast Advisory Board of the World Skin Cancer Foundation.  Mr. Walker received a bachelor's degree in economics with a concentration in finance from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, and a master's degree in business administration from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA. He holds FINRA Series 7, 63 and 24 securities licenses.

Trevor Bohn

Mr.
Bohn has more than ten years of investment banking advisory and capital raising experience.  He has advised clients on numerous mergers and acquisitions both in sell-side and buy-side advisor roles and has executed a broad range of equity and debt capital raising transactions.  Mr. Bohn's experience covers various industries with a distinct focus in the aerospace, defense and government services sectors.  Prior to joining Salem Partners, Mr. Bohn was with McGladrey Capital Markets closing advisory transactions with middle market clients headquartered in North America and Europe, private equity groups and distressed capital providers.  Mr. Bohn began his career with Banc of America Securities LLC as a member of their aerospace, defense and general industrial group located in Los Angeles, California.  Mr. Bohn received a bachelor's of business administration degree in finance, investment and banking from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

Brendan Houlihan

Mr. Houlihan joined Salem Partners in February 2003. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Houlihan was an Associate in the Mergers and Acquisitions practice of Credit Suisse First Boston in San Francisco. Prior to working with Credit Suisse First Boston, Mr. Houlihan was an Analyst in the Technology Investment Banking practice at Warburg Dillon Read in San Francisco. Mr. Houlihan has directly participated in over 15 completed M&A transactions and financings for clients including Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner, Informix Software and Nortel Networks as well as a wide variety of consulting, valuation and strategic advisory assignments within the media and entertainment industry. Mr. Houlihan is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.

Mr. Smith joined Salem Partners in 2007 and is focused on sourcing, evaluating and structuring investments in the technology and life sciences sectors.  Before joining Salem, Mr. Smith spent four years with Harvey & Company, an Orange County-based merchant bank.  While at Harvey, Mr. Smith sourced and evaluated deals for middle-market private equity funds and strategic buyers.  Mr. Smith directly participated in the leveraged recapitalizations of Coldmatic Products International, TMI LLC and Grafton-Fraser, Inc.  Prior to Harvey & Company, he was a consultant with Public Health Foundation Enterprises in Los Angeles.  Mr. Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern California.

Ryan Murphy

Mr.
Murphy joined Salem Partners in 2009 as a member of the Aerospace & Defense Group.  Prior to joining to Salem, Ryan was an associate at McGladrey Capital Markets where he participated in multiple middle market M&A and capital raising transactions. Ryan began his career at Barclays Capital as an analyst in their Debt Capital Markets division. He graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University with a major in Economics and a minor in Finance.

Erik Einwalter

Mr. Einwalter joined Salem Partners in April 2008. Prior to joining the firm, he worked as a consultant at Navigant Consulting, Inc. Mr. Einwalter’s work there included the financial analysis of litigation claims and commercial real estate due diligence and transaction support. Prior to his experience at Navigant Consulting, Mr. Einwalter worked as an intern at Marcus & Millichap, a commercial real estate investment services firm. Mr. Einwalter is a graduate from the University of Washington with a B.A. in Business & Finance from the Foster School of Business.

Derek Hsu
Analyst

 

Mr. Hsu joined Salem Partners in March 2010.  Prior to joining the firm, he worked for Fox Digital Media in the Business Development and Research group where he identified and evaluated potential partnerships with emerging technology companies in the digital media space.  He also worked closely with site managers and ad sales teams to improve sell-out rates and increase overall site traffic and revenue.  Prior to Fox Digital Media, he was a Consultant at IBM Global Business Services, where he developed financial models for the Federal Housing Administration.  Mr. Hsu graduated from Duke University with a major in Biomedical Engineering and minor in Economics.

Colin Zilberberg

Mr. Zilberberg joined Salem Partners in March 2010. Prior to joining Salem, Mr. Zilberberg worked as a financial analyst for Magento Inc., the fastest growing ecommerce platform in the world. While at Magento Inc., Mr. Zilberberg worked directly with the CFO on all financial projects. Additionally, he helped value the company for a multi-million dollar capital injection. Mr. Zilberberg graduated cum laude from Loyola Marymount University with a major in Finance and a minor in Accounting.
